About Us

Established in 1853, New Salem has served the Sebewaing community with the Word of God for over 170 years. At present our church membership includes around 180 souls.

As a congregation we strive to be a friendly and family-oriented gathering of believers whose primary purpose is share the good news of a Savior from sin with whoever will listen.

New Salem is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, one of the predominantly conservative Lutheran church bodies in the United States. Our synod is so named because its founders began their work in Wisconsin. Today it is represented across the United States, in Canada and in many countries throughout the world. Our synod exists as a means to preserve sound doctrine and to allow fellow believers to join together in the work of training future pastors and teachers and sending out missionaries to preach the Gospel of Christ.

God’s Word tells us that as sinners, we could never hope to stand before God or to earn a place in heaven on our own. But God does love us. For this reason, He sent Jesus into the world, to live and die as our Substitute. Now through faith in Christ, our sins are forgiven. Eternal Life is God’s gift to all believers. We invite you to come and rejoice with us in this Gospel message every Sunday morning.

"This is the day the Lord has made;

We will rejoice and be glad in it".
